Der Okumenische Arbeitskreis evangelischer und katholischer Theologen legt einen Beitrag zu dem anhaltenden Ringen um das rechte Verstandnis der Reformation vor, bei dem die theologische Bedeutung dieses Ereignis im Vordergrund steht. Im okumenischen Geist geschieht eine historische Rekonstruktion der komplexen Vorgange im 16. Jahrhundert. Die Reformation wird zum Anlass, gemeinsam aus systematisch-theologischer Sicht das Wesen der einen Kirche zu bestimmen. Die gegenwartig gegebenen okumenischen Herausforderungen werden kritisch und konstruktiv bedacht. Im Konzert der Meinungen hat dieser Beitrag zur Debatte auch deshalb grosses Gewicht, weil er auf einer uber Jahrzehnte hinweg fundierten okumenischen Studienarbeit des Okumenischen Arbeitskreises basiert.
